The Problem

Multiple common areas across UConn's residence halls lacked engaging visuals. The spaces needed large-scale designs that would not only break up the monotony of the hallways but also meaningfully reflect the university's identity. I was commissioned to create two separate murals, starting with a design in Busby Suites to honor Alan Thacker Busby, the university's first African American graduate.

The Result

Both projects are currently in the final stages of digital drafting and approval. The physical installations are scheduled for later this school year, which will completely revitalize these high-traffic campus areas and create lasting, meaningful tributes on campus.

The Process

I am managing the entire project lifecycle for both commissions simultaneously. I started by researching the specific history of each location—such as Alan's legacy for the Busby Mural—to ensure the concepts were authentically grounded.

From there, I moved into digital drafting using my design software stack (Procreate and Adobe CC) to map out the large-scale layouts, typography, and color palettes. A major part of this process has been designing with the physical environments in mind, ensuring the visual flow makes sense for high-traffic areas and that the digital files will scale perfectly to the final physical wall dimensions.
